GLUGGLE JUG MAKING WORKSHOP
2 HOURS l £72 pp
On this fabulous workshop you’ll use a variety of hand-building techniques to craft your own characterful Gluggle Jug! Taught by Dave Short, finalist on The Great Pottery Throw Down 2024, this unique session is the perfect chance to learn from an expert while getting creative with clay.
WHAT IS A GLUGGLE JUG?
Gluggle jugs, first made in Staffordshire in the early 1800s, are beloved for their fish-shaped design and signature "glugging" sound when poured. Recently, they’ve seen a resurgence in popularity after featuring as a hand-building challenge on The Great Pottery Throw Down. Now, you can make your own under Dave’s expert guidance who will be sharing his experience & expertise to deliver this unique class!
WHAT TO EXPECT:
After a warm welcome, Dave will demonstrate how to construct a gluggle jug using slab and coil techniques, guiding you through each step of the process. Once you've got the basics, it’s your turn to get hands-on, shaping and personalising your jug with texture, detail, and even a splash of colour. Dave will be on hand throughout, offering tips and advice as you work.
Your finished piece will be left to dry for a week before being bisque fired, glazed, and fired again to achieve a glossy, watertight finish - ready to gluggle! You’ll be notified by email 2-3 weeks after the class about collection, or postal delivery can be arranged for a small fee.
This is a rare chance to learn from a Pottery Throw Down finalist while creating something both beautiful and functional. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced maker, this workshop promises a fun and rewarding experience!
